SMITH, Eugene EUGENE ROBINSON SMITH Mr. Eugene Robinson Smith, age 79 of Conyers, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Smyrna Presbyterian Church, Conyers, GA with Rev. Scott Emmons, Rev. Tom Pipkin, and Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Everyone attending is invited to a dinner following the service in the church dining hall. A family interment will be held later in the Smyrna Cemetery, Conyers, GA. Mr. Smith graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1952 and has been active in the alumni gatherings. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from General Motors
Institute (now Kettering University), Flint, Michigan in 1956. Gene served in the Georgia National Guard with six months active duty in the Army. He worked for General Motors for 32 years retiring from the Lakewood Plant in Atlanta, GA. After retirement he had a home contracting business and designed and built the homes he and Carol lived in. Mr. Smith's main purpose in life was to worship and serve Jesus Christ. He attended Clairmont Presbyterian Church, Decatur, GA for 25 years and Smyrna Presbyterian Church, Conyers, GA for 33 years serving as an Elder in both churches. He also enjoyed music, especially singing in the Smyrna quartet and playing his guitar. He loved sports and served for many years as a gate manager at the Georgia Tech football games. After retirement he and Carol traveled often and went to many places around the world. Gene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carol of Conyers, GA; son, Greg and Teresa Smith of Corning, NY; daughters, Kimberly and Mark Prescott of Peachtree City, GA, Shelly and George Archer of Conyers, GA; twin sister, Marlene Carson of Snellville, GA; grandchildren, Grant and Sterling Smith, Brooke and Ryan Hawtof of Corning, NY, Katie and Phil Price of Woodstock, GA, Jon Prescott of Atlanta, GA, Ryan and Madeline Prescott of Peachtree City, GA, Shelby and Kurtis Archer of Reidsville, GA; nephews, Michael and Janelle Carson of Loganville, GA, Ken and Helen Carson of Dunwoody, GA; and a host of wonderful friends.
