Family-Placed Death Notice

BARTON, Evelyn Evelyn Scales Barton, 90, of Buchanan passed away Nov. 5, 2011, after a brief illness. She was born May 25, 1921, in Haralson County, daughter of the late Estora Hutcheson Scales and Joe Brown Scales. She was a life-long resident of Haralson County except for a brief period when she lived in Cedartown during WWII. She was a retired teacher who taught at Buchanan Elementary School for 28 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Arnold O. Barton and a sister, Pauline Scales McGinnis. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Bob Goldin of Buchanan and Susan and Jay Wucher of McDonough; one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Elaine Barton of Decatur; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grand-children. Mrs. Barton was a dedicated and innovative teacher who touched and inspired thousands of young lives in her many years teaching first and second grade. She was also a member of the Buchanan United Methodist Church for 60 years and was active in children's activities and UMW. She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who led by her example of love and kindness. She was a tireless gardener and a wonderful cook who always had room for one more at her table. No one forgot a meal in her home or a piece of her cake or pie. Services will held at 11 a.m. Monday Nov. 7, at Buchanan UMC. Internment will be in the Tallapoosa East Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be, Rob Goldin, Jack Wucher, David Barton, Ryan Harrod, David Webb, Pete Ewing and Joe Ewing. Memorial donations may be made to Buchanan UMC or Tallapoosa East Cemetery Fund. Hutcheson's Memorial Chapel & Crematory of Buchanan is in charge of the arrangements.
