Francis Sidney Anderson, Jr., age 86, of Decatur, died February 15, 2006, following a brief illness. He was born December 29, 1919, in Farmville, VA, the third child of Francis Sidney Anderson and Edith Proctor Pollard Anderson. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Hampden-Sydney College in Hampden-Sydney, VA and both his Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Theology from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. Ordained by the Presbytery of Atlanta in 1944, he pastored the Barnett Presbyterian Church in Atlanta from 1944 to 1945 and the Porterdale Presbyterian Church in Porterdale, GA, from 1948 to 1957. Between 1945 and 1948, he served as a Missionary Teacher at the Gammon Institute in Lavras, Brazil. From 1957 until his retirement in 1988, he served Columbia Theological Seminary in the various roles of Dean of Students, Registrar, Director of Field Work, Treasurer and Business Manager, and Vice-President for Financial Affairs. While at Columbia, he pastored some 30 churches in the Atlanta Presbytery on an interim basis. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Sexton Grayson Anderson: daughters and son-in-law, Patsy McFarland of Cumming, Ellen Anderson of Atlanta, and Sidney and Stan Tucker of Norcross: granddaughter Christy McFarland of Charlottesville, VA: brother, Allan Christian Anderson of Texas City, TX: sister, Jane Guthrie Anderson Clark of Farmville, VA: and various nieces and nephews. Private graveside services were held Friday, February 17, 2006, at Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington, GA.
