Family-Placed Death Notice

BELL, James JAMES THOMPSON BELL It is with great sadness that the family of James Thompson Bell announces his passing on Friday, March 27, 2009 at the age of 77 years. Jim Bell was born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y., served in the Korean War and graduated from Fordham University. He started his career in financial management with Arthur Young and served as chief financial officer of many publicly listed companies. Jim served as acting chief executive officer for the American Cancer Society after years as their chief financial officer and was instrumental in the selection of Atlanta, Ga., as its new national headquarters and subsequent relocation from New York in 1988. He leaves three children, Julie Davis and her son Ian of Atlanta, Ga., John Bell of Forest Hills, N.Y., and Jennifer Foresta, her three sons, Thomas, William and James of Darien, Conn. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Elena Martinez of Duluth, Ga., her daughter Barbara Bercik, her three daughters, Jessica, Bailey and Samantha. His loving sister, Ethel of Portland, Ore., survives him, and our family will be eternally grateful to her for the precious gift of her kidney. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edwin and Andy Bell, and he is also survived by Barbara Bell, his first wife. A Memorial Service for Jim will be held on Friday, April 3, 2009, at 12:00 pm at the Buford Presbyterian Church in Sugar Hill,. GA.
