Family-Placed Death Notice
JANIE GRIFFIN ABRAMS Janie Griffin Abrams, age 81, of Sandy Springs, died November 20, 2004, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was born April 19, 1923 and spent most of her youth in Birmingham, Alabama. She moved to the Atlanta area during her husband's tour of duty at the Naval Air Station Atlanta. Janie's life had three passions: her unshakeable Christian faith, her love for flowers, and her commitment and love for family. She devoted much of her life to serving God at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School, served as a ruling Elder, was President of the Women of the Church, Presbyterian Moderator, a Bible teacher and on the prayer chain. Nothing gave her greater joy than to use her creativity designing symbolic flower arrangements for the church. Janie's love of flowers led her to begin a business as a custom floral designer. She headed the flower department for Larry Lucas Ltd. and began directing weddings and creating original designs for weddings and homes. She became an accredited Life and Master Judge and both entered and judged many flower shows until her retirement. She was an active member in the Designers Club, a club for professional flower show judges. Janie will be missed for many things, but especially for her gentle and loving manner that drew others to her. Family gatherings were her joy, and she took great pleasure in decorating for each event. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Warren Abrams Sr. She is survived by her children Paul Warren Abrams Jr. and his wife Pat and Mary Jane Abrams Trotti and her husband Paul and six grandchildren. The family will receive friends at H.M. Patterson & Son, 173 Allen Road N.E. from 7-9 pm, Monday, November 22nd. The memorial service will be Tuesday, November 23rd at 11 am at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 471 Mount Vernon Hwy., N.E., Atlanta, GA 30328. Arrangements by H. M. Patterson and Son Arlington Chapel, (404) 851-9900.
