MARTIN, John Jacob John Jacob Martin was born on January 16th, 1952 at 7:50 a.m. at Mother Cabrini Hospital in New York City. He was the sixth of what would be eight children born to Fritzi and Cecil T. Martin. John sang his way from childhood through adulthood with the Corpus Christi Boy's and Men's Choir. He graduated from Bishop DuBois High School and continued his voice studies at the Manhattan School of Music. It was during this time that he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. He later graduated from New York University with a degree in Communications. His love for music and news led him into a career in broadcasting to include voice-over work for commercials, documentaries and feature films. He relocated to Atlanta in 1990 where he continued his career at Peach 94.9 and also as a broadcast journalist for CNN Radio News. In September of 1999 he married Kate Holland at St.George Island, Florida. Each of them had spent most of their lives in the performing arts and created many collaborations together in their fourteen years. They had a life full of love, and cherished many friends while living in a beautiful home in Decatur. In 2006 John changed careers, becoming the official court reporter for Judge Anthony Baker at the Cherokee Juvenile Court System. He was an avid runner and the picture of health until an illness caused by toxic mold discovered in his house brought devastating illness. He left peacefully on the morning of October 28th with his beloved wife by his side. John's survivors include Kate; his son, John Fredrick; sisters, Yvonne, Audre and Jane; and three brothers, Patrick, Mark and Fred. The family has chosen to hold a private memorial service with a close circle of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make any contributions to John's favorite charity, the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center Yoga Scholarship Fund for Veterans, to provide free classes and services for our heroes.
