Family-Placed Death Notice

SMITH, Jr., L. Neal L Neal Smith, Jr., 80, of Atlanta, Ga. passed away on November 6, 2013, after a long and bravely fought battle with cancer. Neal grew up in Miami, Fl. and graduated from Coral Gables High School. He served as president of Ching Tang fraternity whose motto was "onward and upward", a standard Neal lived by his entire life. Neal received a B.S. in industrial management from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1955, where he served as president of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Neal served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Following his service, he joined Scott Equipment Company which was founded by his father and continues under the leadership of his son, Neal Smith III. Neal is preceded in death by his parents, Frances Cone Butler and Lee Neal Smith, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sunny Harris Smith, his son, Lee Neal Smith,III, and his step sister, Wanda June Scott. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 10, at 2:00 p.m., in the sanctuary at Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church, 2715 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta Ga. 30305. Visitation is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in the church parlor. Donations may be made to Atlanta Community Ministries, Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church or a in memory of L.
