Louie STOREY


Family-Placed Death Notice

STOREY, Louie Louie Watson Storey, 92, passed away, September 12, 2013 at Embracing Hospice in Snellville, GA, from complications of a stroke suffered in July. Louie was born in Dallas, GA on October 15, 1920. He was the son of the late John Walter Storey and Mae Will Smith Storey of Clarkston, GA. In the late 1920's his family moved from rural Paulding County GA to Chestnut Street in the West End of Atlanta where Louie graduated from Commercial High School. It was there that he met Dorothy Louise Martin, his life-long friend and loving spouse for 73 years. After graduation from Commercial High, Louie worked for Dixie Electronics until the outbreak of WWII. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps, reaching the rank of Master Sergeant while primarily serving in the Quartermaster Corps in San Diego. After WWII the couple returned to Atlanta, living and raising their family in the Kirkwood and East Lake neighborhoods before moving to Tucker in 1965, where the family joined the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Tucker. Louie was the Financial Controller of Boykin Tool and Supply Co. on Courtland Avenue in Atlanta from 1946 until 1967 when he became employed as Treasurer of the Southeastern Fair and Exposition Association at Lakewood Park. In 1975 he joined the Brainard-Kilman Drill Company in Tucker as Controller until his retirement in 1989. Louie was a life-long woodworker and craftsman, creating furniture, clocks, and other finely handcrafted pieces for family and friends. After retirement he joined the Atlanta Chapter of the Watch and Clock Guild, participating in the restoration of county courthouse clocks, including the tower clock in the Gwinnett County Courthouse. In addition to his parents, Louie was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold C. Storey and Pvt. John W. Storey, Jr. who was killed in action in WWII. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Martin Storey of Tucker, GA; two children, Nancy Storey Barrett of Lawrenceville, GA and John Martin Storey and wife Barbara of Greenville, SC, and a nephew, Danny R. Storey of Duluth, GA. He is also survived by his five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, Ansley Barrett Sparks, husband Brian and their children Gabrielle, Aiden, and Zachary of Easton, PA; Paran Barrett Davis, husband Allen and her daughter Gracie of Hahira, GA; Emily Storey Hess, husband Jim and their daughters Hannah, Sophia, and Emma Kate of Rogers, AR; Matthew Clement Storey and wife Tianna of Kingsport, TN; and Caitlin Storey Hunter and husband Marshall of Simpsonville, SC. The family wishes to thank the staff of Atria Assisted Living in Tucker where Mr. Storey lived for the past two years and the Embracing Hospice staff for their assistance in his last days. In Lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church of Tucker (5073 Lavista Road, Tucker, GA 30084) and St. Giles Presbyterian Church (1021 Hudson Road, Greenville, SC 29615). A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Bill Head Funeral Home, Lilburn/Tucker Chapel, with Rev. Vance Nesbit officiating.
