Family-Placed Death Notice

BRAKE, Miriam MIRIAM BROWN BRAKE Miriam Brown Brake of Marietta, GA, passed away on July 18, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Miriam was preceded in death by her daughter, Hannah Marie Brake, father, William O. Brown and brother, Larry Brown. She is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Stephen Brake, daughters, Stephanie Huneycutt (James) and Jessica Townson (Jake), grandson, Liam Huneycutt, mother, Lalia Brown, and sister, Sharon Carpenter. Miriam was born in Birmingham, AL on July 17, 1955. She accepted Christ as Lord and Savior as a child and was baptized at Walkers Chapel Baptist Church. Miriam graduated from Fultondale High School and attended Jefferson State Community College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She moved to Marietta, GA with her family in 1983, where she devoted herself to her children and community. She was heavily involved as a volunteer in the Cobb County Schools, in the classroom, supporting art and music programs, orchestra, drumline, color guard, marching band, PTA, as well as Girl Scouts and Brownies. Miriam was a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, GA where she was a Stephen Minister, providing one on one Christian care to people going through difficult times, and a Stephen Leader, providing supervision and training to other Stephen Ministers. Miriam was a joyous, loving child of God, beautiful inside and out. She was a blessing to everyone around her, constantly spreading joy and love wherever she went. Everyone that met her was impacted by her infectious smile, loving nature, and warm, tender heart. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 11:00am at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, Gardendale, AL, (205) 631-6252. The family will receive friends on Monday, July 22 from 6:00-8:00pm. A celebration of life memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 2:00pm in the chapel at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA.
