Rezin PIDGEON Jr.


Family-Placed Death Notice

PIDGEON, Jr., Rezin Rezin Edward Pidgeon, Jr was born January 18, 1927 in Washington, D.C. to Rezin E Pidgeon, Sr and Vella Vernelle Ash. When he was 7 years old, his family moved to Atlanta where he attended Morningside Elementary School. He was graduated from Boys High School in 1944. Then he served in the Navy and attended Georgia Tech where he graduated in 1949. At Georgia Tech he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and Eta Kappa Nu honorary society and later IEEE for engineers. He was employed by RCA Service Company and lived in College Park, MD, Peoria, Illinois, Lake Charles, LA, Oak Ridge, TN, and Princeton, NJ where he worked at RCA's David Sarnoff Research Laboratories. He attended graduate school at the University of Tennessee, Princeton University, and Georgia Tech where he received his masters in Electrical Engineering in 1961. He was employed by Scientific Atlanta (now Cisco) for 40 years where he was Principal Engineer. He held more than 50 patents for Scientific Atlanta. Rezin began running in 1962 when it was not fashionable and was one of the first to run the Peachtree Road Race. He was a marathon runner and bicyclist. After retirement he became a Master Gardener (North Fulton) and volunteered at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for nine years. His gardens were on the 2012 Atlanta Botanical Garden Tour. He loved nature and was known for his beautiful landscaping. He spent many hours caring for the traffic circle at Riverside and Edgewater Drive. He was an expert wood craftsman and model ship builder. He loved classical music and in his younger days was an accomplished pianist. As a young man he played clarinet and saxophone in a local dance band and earned enough money to buy his wife an engagement ring. He was a loyal member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and was made an elder while a member at Peachtree Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris Davis Pidgeon, four children: Cathy (Rev. Dr. Randy Jackson), Peggy (Joe Hayes), Lisa (Judge Robert Hilliard), and son, John (Sabra). There are nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by his only brother, Vernon Pidgeon (Norma) of Ocala, Florida, 3 nieces and one nephew. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Pidgeon's memory to Trinity Presbyterian Church, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, or Hospice Atlanta. A memorial service will be Monday, November 25, 2013 at 2 o'clock at Trinity Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends this evening from 6 to 8 o'clock at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328
