Family-Placed Death Notice

MARTIN, Robert Carey October 2, 1939-November 19, 2013 Robert Carey Martin, resident of Marietta, Georgia was received into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 19, 2013. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends who Robert had touched in some small way throughout his memorable life. Robert, known by his family as "Carey", friends as "Bob", and neighborhood children as "Mr. Bob", was born on October 2, 1939 to Robert and Gladys Martin, in Griffin, Georgia. His mother, passed away with pneumonia when he was only three days old. Gladys' mother and father raised Bob as a young child until their passing, at which time his seven Aunts began to fuss over him and spoil him rotten. For Christmas one year, when Bob was in his mid-teens, his Aunts gave him a fire engine red bicycle with a front basket and two back saddlebags. Thus began his first job as a newspaper salesman and delivery boy. Bob continued his sales career in sales as a young professional traveling throughout the Carolina's, Georgia and Florida, calling on and selling beauty supplies to hairdressers. He later moved on to "Beauty Shows", working the stage with famous hair product suppliers. Around 1965, Bob went to work in his father's fire protection business, Fire Fighter Sales and Service. He later joined Cerberus Pyrotronics Corporation in sales and made his way up through the ranks as Southeastern District Sales Manager, with product distributors throughout the SE United States and Puerto Rico. In 1993, Bob was bestowed the highest form of recognition given any employee, membership in the elite "President's Club" and spend six glorious days in Napa Valley with his wife, Colleen, wine touring, sightseeing and dining at elegant restaurants. Bob became a member of the Atlanta Unity Church in March, 1986, where he met Colleen at a church concert. He served several years on the Board of Directors, and coordinated many "Special Events" for the membership and community, including an evening with Dr. Wayne Dyer, one of his favorite authors and public speakers. Bob is survived by his wife of 25 years, Colleen Martin, his stepmother, Ellen Martin, his sister, Jane Bobo and her husband, Harley, his sister-in- law, Carroll Bonner, his sons, Robin Horton and his wife, Barbie, Michael Martin and his wife, Jill, Tony Martin and stepson, Richard Johns. He is also survived by three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces, nephews and his cats, Samantha and Christina. We will be celebrating Robert Carey Martin's life on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 1:00pm in the chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home in Griffin, Georgia. Visitation will be from 10:30 until 1:00pm. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
