Robert McINTYRE

Family-Placed Death Notice

McINTYRE, Robert Robert Lee McIntyre, 60, of Johns Creek, Ga., died on October 7, 2013, with his wife, family and friends at his side. Born in Germantown, Penn., McIntyre grew up in Philadelphia and Costa Mesa, Ca. He moved back to Philadelphia as a young man where he graduated from Penn State University with a degree in biology. Later in life, he also lived in Clearwater, Fl., and Atlanta. McIntyre enjoyed a 35-year career with General Electric, where he worked in sales for the water division until he became disabled in 2011. He was married for 22 years to his beloved, Connie Brown, whom he met at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church, where the couple remained members throughout his life. In addition to his love for God, his church and his family, McIntyre was an avid sportsman who loved working in the garden and collecting model trains. He was a long distance runner who competed in the Philadelphia marathon, and ran in more than 50 other road races. He also enjoyed tennis, bicycling and fly fishing and was an active member in Trout Unlimited. From his grandfather, McIntyre developed a love for model trains, especially after he experienced the thrill of a train ride from California to Pennsylvania when he was seven years old. In his lifetime, he converted two basements into extensive railroad layouts, and served as a leader and mentor in various roles, including superintendent of the Piedmont Division of the National Model Railroad Association. In July 2013 he was the chair of the National Model Railroad Convention. A wise and gifted conversationalist and trivia buff, McIntyre never met a stranger. His faith and his intense love of life and physical fitness helped him to survive cancer and 2 bone marrow transplants for more than 11 years. He found great comfort in his favorite Bible verse, Isaiah 53:5: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed." He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert McIntyre and Mary Dunson. He is survived by his wife, Connie; a brother and his spouse, Michael and Jeanne McIntyre; a sister, Laury McIntyre; two daughters and their spouses, Tara and David Alvord, and Shanna McIntyre and Buddy Clarke; and granddaughters Madeline Alvord and Katie Clarke.
