Family-Placed Death Notice

UHL, Robert Perkins Robert Perkins Uhl died Friday, June 14, 2013 after a short illness. He was 96. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. in 1917 to John Hamilton and Rebecca Magraw Uhl, he was one of seven siblings. He graduated from Princeton University Class of 1939 and Harvard Business School in 1941. He married Alice Laubach in 1941. They had four children, Carolyn, Robert, Stephen, and Sarah. During World War II, he served as a lieutenant in the Navy. After the war he worked for Carpenter Technologies, rising to vice president of sales. Years later he bought a lighting store in Virginia. After three years, he relocated to Atlanta to start Sunlighting Lamp & Shade Center in 1971. After the death of his first wife in 1983, he relocated to Pinehurst NC to fulfill a dream of theirs to play golf til he dropped. He nearly accomplished that feat, playing until he was 93, and having to stop only because he broke his wrist. In 2012 he moved back to Atlanta to be with family. He is survived by a brother, Richard, and a sister, Eleanor, two children, Carolyn and Robert and grandsons, Michael and Anthony. The cremation was handled by Wages and Sons, St. Mountain, Ga. A memorial service will be held in Pinehurst, N.C. at a later date.
