Rose N. Harris

Family-Placed Death Notice

Visitation for family and friends of Rose N. Harris, 92, will be held at Ridout's Roebuck Chapel Funeral Home from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 23 with Graveside Services following at 11:00 AM CST at Forest Hills Cemetery in Birmingham, AL with the Rev. E. Perry Wood, Sr. Pastor of East Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Mrs. Harris was born in Madison County, TN on August 27, 1913, daughter of the late Robert and Matilda Eaves Northcott and grew up on a farm located between Jackson and Humboldt, TN. She moved to Birmingham, AL in 1944 to make a home with her husband Lee Harris, Construction Supervisor with Daniel Construction Co. Rose N. Harris, 60 year resident of the East Lake area in Birmingham and long time member of the Kings Daughters Sunday School Class at East Lake United Methodist Church, passed away on June 20, 2005 in Kennesaw, Georgia Mrs. Harris was a resident at Ross Memorial Healthcare Center in Kennesaw, and former resident at Gaines Park Assisted Living Community in Kennesaw. At the age of 85, she made the decision to sell her beloved home and beautiful yard and garden in East Lake and relocated to the Atlanta area to be closer to her son, Bob and grandsons, Chris, Todd, and Patrick. She found happiness in her new Kennesaw home and enjoyed the challenge of establishing a new yard, meeting new neighbors, creating a new family home, and enjoyed many Sunday and holiday meals, with her boys, and was still cutting her own grass and working in her yard until her health began to fail at the age of 89. Her life was brightened when rewarded with a great granddaughter, Emily Rose Dunn on June 19, 2003 and nothing would prevent Mama Rose from being at the hospital to witness and celebrate her birth. Even in her darkest hours when she knew her death was fast approaching she said she could close her eyes and see Emily's beautiful face and hear her sweet laugh, and know she could get through one more day. Mrs. Harris' death was preceded by that of her husband, Lee O. Harris, sisters, Lula Mae Northcott, Opal Long and Maureen Hillard and brothers, John and Robert. Survivors include her son, Robert N. Dunn, grandsons, Chris Dunn, Todd Dunn and Patrick Dunn; great-granddaughter, Emily Rose Dunn, brothers, J.D. Northcott, James Northcott and Fred Northcott, and many nieces and nephews.
