Waymon KNIGHT Jr.

KNIGHT, Jr., Waymon Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Gentleman. Waymon Terrell Knight, Jr., age 85 of Marietta, passed away February 15, 2014. Waymon grew up on a dairy farm in LaGrange, GA. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1945. His grandfather asked him if he wanted to run the dairy farm or go to college and Waymon said he would go to college. At sixteen years of age, he took a train to Oxford, GA and enrolled in Emory at Oxford as a pre-medical student. He then earned a BA degree from Emory in 1952 on the bootstrap program while being enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in the Human Resources and Research Division at Lackland Air Force Base receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. Waymon then returned to Emory University earning his Bachelor of Law degree in 1962 which was later named the Doctor of Law degree in 1970. He went to Trinity University in San Antonio, TX while he was in the Air Force. He was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity at Emory University. He was a member of the Writer's Guild. Waymon loved antiques and opened an antique shop in Roswell named after his children called Antel Antiques. He was not only a worldwide traveler, visiting England on a monthly basis to buy English furniture; he traveled extensively with Lockheed Corporation as a corporate attorney and contract specialist for thirty-five years; in fact, he sold Elvis Presley and Sammy Davis, Jr. their first airplanes. He was the president of the Lion's Club and Home Owners Association in Roswell, GA. In his later years, he became a playwright and novelist and had his plays performed by professional actors in the Roswell, GA area. Waymon always had a love for the theater and his favorite music was from Rogers and Hammerstein. His favorite movie was The Sound of Music. He was recently planning a trip to England to get his plays produced in England. He also loved Ireland and his favorite quote was the Irish Blessing. The best Bible scripture which personified Waymon is Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things." Son of the late Waymon Terrell Knight, Sr. and the late Sarah Davis Knight of LaGrange, GA, is preceded in death by son, Waymon Terrell Knight III of Suches, GA. Surviving kin include daughter Martha Ann Blevins and husband, Vernie Lee Blevins, Jr. and granddaughter, Ashley Martha Ann Strickland of Alpharetta, GA. Other surviving kin are siblings Lena Knight Whitley of LaGrange, GA., Thomas R. Knight of LaGrange, GA, Lynda Knight- Welborn of Chatsworth, GA, Carolyn Sue Knight Morgan- Stolte of Nashville, TN, Brothers- in-law; the late John H. Whitley, Donald T. Welborn Sr., Pat Morgan, and Joe Bright. Sisters- in- law; Judy Knight and the late Juanita Knight. Nieces and Nephews are Fran Whitley of LaGrange, GA, Lynn and Jeff Nixon and son, Harrison of LaGrange GA., Don T. and Susan Welborn and daughters Janelle and Jesse of Marietta, GA., Steve and Stacy Martin and daughter, Jordyn of Cumming, GA, Kim Welborn and Kimber Hansen of Atlanta GA, Parks Morgan, Jr. and John Roy of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Sam and Shannon Knight and son Jonathon of LaGrange, GA. Funeral services will be held Friday, 11:00 AM at Northside Chapel Funeral Directors. Pastor David Gunter officiating. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM at Hillview East Cemetery in LaGrange. The family will receive friends Thursday evening 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
