WEBB, Paul, Jr. PAUL WEBB JR. Paul Webb Jr., of Atlanta, passed away April 15, 2012. Paul lived most of his life in Georgia. After graduating from high school in Lavonia, Georgia, he spent two years at and graduated from North Georgia College, which was then essentially a Military College. He then accepted a position with a large manufacturing company as a time and motion study engineer. The day after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, he voluntarily enlisted in the Army and served as Liaison Pilot directing artillery fire during the invasion across Europe with the Third U.S. Army. After serving in the Army for nearly five years, Paul returned to Atlanta where he attended Emory University, graduating with his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He then attended Harvard Law School, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Law. It was while attending Harvard that Paul and Gwyneth met. Two years later, they were married and moved to Atlanta where Paul had opened his law firm. Together Paul and Gwyneth raised two boys and three girls. One of Paul's hobbies, in addition to gardening and back packing, was flying one of his planes. He and Gwyneth flew all over the United States attending weddings, visiting friends and often on business. It was not until Paul turned 80 that he gave up flying. This was also the year that he retired from his law firm which had merged in 1994 with the firm Holland & Knight, LLP which, several mergers later, included more than 1,000 lawyers representing clients all over the United States and abroad. As a prominent Atlanta attorney, Paul served as a Board member and President of Atlanta Legal Aid Society and member and Chairman of the Disciplinary Board of the State Bar of Georgia. He was a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a former member of the State Committee of the College. Paul was also very active on numerous National boards of the United Methodist Church. He served on the Judicial Council of the church which is the highest position for a layman in the church. He was also a long time member and past President of the Robert Burns Club of Atlanta. When not in Atlanta you could find Paul and Gwyneth at their home on St. Simon's Island or at their cabin in the mountains of North Georgia near Helen with their extended family. Paul is survived by his wife, Gwyneth; their two sons: Paul Webb III and John Philip Webb; three daughters: Molly Swan, Laurie Webb Daniel, and Susan Gregg; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1pm on Monday, April 23 at St. James United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
