Family-Placed Death Notice

CARLOS M. HEMPERLY, JR. Age 84, of East Point and owner of A. C. Hemperley & Sons Funeral Home for over 45 years, died December 29, 2003. He was highly respected by his funeral colleagues, his community, and the many families he served as a man of integrity and gentleness. Mr. Hemperley was an active member of First Baptist Church of East Point and served as Deacon and in other capacities. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. A graduate of Gupton-Jones Mortuary School in Nashville, TN and a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1940, Mr Hemperley was Past President of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers, Past President of the Georgia Funeral Directors Association, and past District Governor of the National Funeral Directors Association. He had a vast knowledge of funeral service and for many years enjoyed going to state and national conventions and attending meetings and seminars offered to further expand his knowledge and experience. Mr. Hemperley was also active in civic activities in Metro Atlanta and served as past president of South Fulton Chamber of Commerce, past president of East Point Lion's Club, and a member of East Point American Legion Post 51, East Point Masonic Lodge 28 F&AM, Yaarab Temple, and South Fulton Shrine Club. He and his wife Ellen enjoyed taking their grandchildren on vacation. Later they enjoyed trips with the South Metro AARP, especially Alaska, Ireland, and the Panama Canal. A devoted husband and loving "PAPA", he will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ellen Yarbrough Hemperley; children, Rebecca Hemperley, LaGrange; Bobbie and Martin Kite, Dawsonville; Carlos M. (Butch) and Linda Hemperley, III, Peachtree City; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Walter (Juanita) Stokes, Miami Springs, FL; Mrs. Don (Anne) Dobbs, Eastman; brother, Asa and Ozine Hemperley, Jensen Beach, FL; aunt, Mrs. Lil Hemperley Stewart, Atlanta; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. on Monday, January 5 in the First Baptist Church of East Point, In state, 1 p.m. Dr. J. W. Wallis officiating. Interment, Westview. Memorials may be made to Georgia Baptist Childrens Home, 9250 Hutcheson Ferry Road, Palmetto, 30268 or charity of donor's choice. Family will receive friends TODAY from 2-6 p.m. and Sunday from 12-4 p.m. at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, 2968 East Point Street, East Point, 404-761-1138 & 404-761-2141.

Carlos Hemperly has been a friend to many in First Baptist and in the community. His care and concern for the feelings of those around him was very obvious and he will be missed by those who knew him.
