LaVerne MURRAH Obituary


Family-Placed Death Notice

MURRAH, LaVerne LaVerne Baird Murrah, age 95 of Austell, formerly of Decatur and Snellville, entered into rest on August 20, 2012. She was married 56 years to the late Jack H. Murrah. LaVerne is survived by four daughters: Margaret (Peggy) Taylor of Hiawassee, GA, Jean Sorrell of Monroe, GA, Eleanor Lanning of Panton, VT and Kay Overton of Lenoir, NC. She is the grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Lyman Rentz Baird, Jr., two nephews and four nieces. LaVerne was born in Unadilla, GA on October 26, 1916 to Lyman R. and Annie L. Baird. She was a 1938 graduate of Miller High School, Macon, GA and 1940 graduate of Wesleyan College Conservatory of Music. She was a long time active member of Oakhurst Presbyterian Church, Decatur and attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, Snellville and Macland Presbyterian Church, Powder Springs. LaVerne sang with the Decatur Civic Chorus for more than 30 years. A memorial service will be held at Presbyterian Village in Austell (where she lived for the past 18 years) at a later date. In memory of LaVerne's life, donations may be made to Helping Hands Fund, Presbyterian Village, 2000 East-West Connector, Austell, GA 30106. Arrangements are under the direction of SouthCare Cremation and Funeral Society of Marietta. (770)-420-5557.
