Jerry Moore Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

MOORE, Jerry Jerry Moore, 12th Bt, who has died on 28 December aged 68, was scion of the Moore's of Ross Carberry. The family claims descent from Thomas de la More, who was Speaker of the House of Commons in the reigns of Edward III and Richard II, and who had been knighted by Edward III in 1346, when the Black Prince and twenty young men of rank, selected to be his brothers-in-arms, were knighted before the expedition to France and the battle of Cressy. He was born on 25 February 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia. His mother was Frances Estelle Baker Moore. His father, Howard Clayton Moore, the eldest son of Daniel James Moore, held a variety of positions ultimately retiring from W.R. Grace Co. Sir Jerry was educated first at Southeastern College and later Florida Southern University. He accepted a position with Hamilton Standard in the late 1960's providing engineering support for various Apollo spacecraft at Kennedy Space Center. Following his stint with the Apollo space program, he transferred to Garrett Airesearch working on the systems for the SkyLab project. Subsequent assignments led him to Ft. Rucker, AL where he operated as a field support engineer on military contracts, followed by a transfer to Atlanta, GA in the late 1970's providing engineering and systems support for MARTA. He continued to provide field service representation for the company's military contracts from which he retired following over thirty years of service in 2009. He enjoyed his work and was very creative. He had been active in his church and involved in many foreign missions trips over the years. His leisure pursuits included hunting, fishing, and making jewelry. Before his health declined, he was actively engaged in the renovation of one of his residences. He married, in 1964, Mary Glenda Moore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Ernest Knowles of Lakeland, FL, descended of Sir Robert Knollys, K.G. of Pontefract and Hertfordshire, Seneschal of Guienne, companion in arms to the Black Prince. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Douglas Cameron Alexander Moore of Georgia; daughter, Sheri Lynn DeFrancisco of Tennessee; brothers, Charles Moore of Georgia, Joseph Moore of Florida, Daniel Moore of Tennessee; sisters Nancy Cason of Florida, Sharon Cardwell of Alabama, Paula Stockwell of Florida; three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 8, 2011, with Rev. Billy Cardwell officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to: Perimeter Church Mission Fund, 9500 Medlock Bridge Road, Duluth, GA 30097. Online condolences may be expressed at www.crowellbrothers.com.
