Family-Placed Death Notice

Major Richard "Dick" Gramling Read, Sr., US Air Force Retired of Marietta, died Tuesday, September 27, 2005. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2005 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, Marietta, Georgia with Rev. Ernie Forrester officiating. Burial will be at Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery, Sandy Springs, Georgia. Mr. Read was a native of Marietta. He served in WWII as a pilot where he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. Mr. Read was a veteran of two conflicts, WWII and Korea. He retired from Delta Airlines. He was a member of the Cobb County Radio Control Club and the Hump Pilots Association. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Read of Marietta; one son, Rick Read & his wife, Donna of Stone Mountain; one brother, Jimmy Read of Portland, OR; three grandchildren, Kathryn, Melissa, Carley; three great grandchildren, Mike, Haley, Daisy; nieces and nephews.Contributions may be made to Embracing Hospice Care, 2160 Fountain Drive, Snellville, GA 30078. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home, Marietta, Georgia.
