Brenda BANKS

BANKS, Brenda Sheril Brenda Sheril Banks passed away on July 25, 2016 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was 66 years old. Brenda was born in Thomaston, Georgia to James Calvin Banks and Mary Fred Jackson Banks. She was a 1971 graduate of Spelman College where she received a BA in History and a Masters in Library and Information Science with a concentration in archival management from Atlanta University. Brenda was employed with Georgia Department of Archives and History in 1972 as Assistant Archivist; she was the only African-American professional on staff at that time. She held several responsible positions there, ultimately becoming Deputy Director of the Georgia Archives. After retiring from the Georgia Archives in 2006, she established Banks Archives Consultants. She is survived by one brother, Monroe G. Banks, one sister Sandra Banks Anderson, (one brother James C. Banks preceded her in death) two nieces, one nephew, 2 great nieces and 2 great nephews. Memorial Service Tuesday, August 2, 2016, 11 am in our Cascade Chapel. Interment Lincoln Cemetery.
