Family-Placed Death Notice
Suzanne Lutrell, age 47 of Athens, passed away Friday, November 30, 2007. Memorial services will be held 3 PM Wednesday, December 5, 2007 in the Stateroom of Tim Stewart Funeral Home, Snellville. Inurnment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville. Miss Lutrell was employed with Wal-Mart in Athens, a graduate of University of Georgia with a teaching degree and a member of the Red Coat Band. She is survived by her parents, Travis and Georgia Lutrell, Snellville; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Yolla Lutrell, Lawrenceville; niece and nephew, Daniel and Eve Lutrell, Lawrenceville; aunts and cousins. To Suzanne's friends and family,
One never knows the impact one may have on another and I wanted to share the impact Suzanne had on me (without even knowing it, I'm sure). It was the fall of 1976 and I had just moved to Georgia from New York. I was in the 8th grade at Columbia High School and was in the band. I remember being awe-stricken by a fellow female trumpet player who was clearly the best trumpeteer in the band. That trumpeteer was Suzanne Lutrell, then a senior. I had played trumpet in the band in New York, but the best trumpet players in the bands I had been in were always guys. Suzanne, with her talent and confidence, inspired me to stay with the trumpet and aspire to be the best trumpeteer in the band. I, too, graduated from UGA, but I had to hang my trumpet up after high school (didn't have time for it after that). I always remembered that awesome lady trumpeteer (who probably didn't remember me) and thanked her during my high school years for showing that the ladies had what it took to be the best.
