Damon PORTIER Sr.

PORTIER, Sr., Damon Damon W. Portier, Sr., 83, of Marietta, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014. Funeral service will be held 9:00 am, TODAY, January 17th, at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home & Crematory Macland Chapel in Powder Springs, with Rev. Randy Cheek officiating. Interment will be at Georgia National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Velma Portier; two sons, Damon W. Portier Jr. of Hiram, Danny Portier of Marietta; two daughters, Vickie Brunau of Tifton, and Lynn Whelan of Lawrenceville; three sisters, Annie George Stevens of Ocilla, Joan Bennett of Smyrna, and Jeanie Ellis of Merritt Island, FL; brother, Joe Portier of Ocilla; four grandchildren, Jessica Portier, Joshua Portier, Melissa Whelan, and Matthew Whelan; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Portier is a veteran of the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Maddox. He served in the Korean Conflict, He retired after thirty five years from Southeastern Freight Lines. He volunteered at the Cobb County Sheriff's Office from his retirement to the present. He loved golf and fishing, and was loved by many.
