LASETER, Joyce C. Joyce Carrell Laseter of Atlanta died January 21, 2014, at the age of 84. She was born on June 22, 1929 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Geneva Voyles Carrell and Clarence Austin Carrell. At age 7 her family moved to the West End neighborhood in Atlanta, and then on to Decatur a few years afterwards. Joyce was a graduate of Clairemont Elementary School and Girls High in Decatur. She attended the University of Georgia. Joyce married Francis Clark Laseter on July 28, 1951. After raising their children, she began a career as a travel agent. Joyce and Clark enjoyed their trips to Europe and the American west. She was a faithful member of North Decatur Presbyterian Church for many years and participated in all aspects of the church's ministries and fellowship. Joyce died four days after the passing of her devoted husband of 62 years, Francis Clark Laseter, whom she loved deeply. Joyce Laseter is survived by son Joel Tyler Laseter II and his wife Janet Witte Brooks; daughter Carrell Laseter Hughes and her husband Keith Alan Hughes; and her beloved grandsons Joel Tyler Laseter III, SSgt Joshua Foster Hughes (USMC) and his wife Stephanie McBride Hughes, and John Austin Hughes. Joyce's sister, Grace Carrell Weaver, died in 2012. Joyce Laseter will be fondly remembered for her compassion for others, her giving spirit, her keen wit and her faithfulness to God and his church. She was devoted to her husband, her family, and especially to her grandsons. Joyce will be greatly missed by all. There will be a memorial service for Joyce and Clark Laseter on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2:00 PM at North Decatur Presbyterian Church, 611 Medlock Road, Decatur, Georgia 30033. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to North Decatur Presbyterian Church.
