Mary ESTES Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

ESTES, Mary MARY "TUT" ESTES Mary "Tut" Estes, 92, formerly of Vinings, died January 3. Born Mary Josephine Evans on November 29, 1920, Tut grew up in Hapeville as the sixth of seven children in a remarkably close-knit family. A natural beauty, she was twice crowned "Miss Hapeville", in 1937 and 1938. She worked for ten years as a secretary at Delta Air Lines, where she met her husband Jack Estes, a pilot. Tut and Jack enjoyed traveling, tennis, and running well into their 70s, and Tut also loved to take long, early morning walks in their Cochise neighborhood. A woman of kindness, beauty, laughter, faith, and strength, she will be missed by the many who loved her. Surviving relatives include her devoted husband of 60 years, Jack, her daughter Leigh and husband Jeff Schlichting, and their two daughters, Nicole and Emma. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12, at 2:00 PM, at Presbyterian Village (Lakeview Chapel), 2000 East-West Connector, Austell. Further details: http://www.davisstruempf.com

Jack, we haven't seen you for awhile and just wanted to pass along our sympathies. Our memory of Tut is from before her sickness while she was vigorous and strong and full of laughter. We love your daughter and your grandchildren and will keep all of you in our prayers. Hopefully we will have the chance to see you again sometime.

Dear Jack,
I'm Jeff's sister Margaret from Miami. Memories of Leigh's and Jeff's wedding and the hospitality we enjoyed at your home bring to mind pictures of Tut sparkling in her role as a gracious Southern hostess. As you miss her, my prayer is that vivid pictures of your rich life together will flood your heart.

Jack;
It has been many years since I flew with you on the L-100 and have many fond memories of our flights from ATL to West coast. I still remember the donuts and the hammock you put up in the back when we were “dead” heading.
I can only imagine your loss. Jim Wells

To Jack and all immediate family:
As secretary for DGW, I send condolences from all our members, especially from those of us that knew Jack or flew with him. Even thought this beloved lady has taken her "final flight West, remember her love and dedication to you as well as all the things you've done together over many years. Like all wives, mothers and grandmothers, her many varied deeds will never be forgotten and her love for each of you will be in your memories forever. May God's blessings of continued love and comfort be with each of you.
