ALLEN, Barbara BARBARA DEEMS ALLEN A Celebration of Life for Barbara Deems Allen of 725 Glenferry Trail, formerly of 5 River Court Parkway, Sandy Springs, GA will be held Sunday, December 12, at the Sandy Springs Chapel located at 136 Mt. Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. Barbara passed on Tuesday, November 30 from cancer. Barbara was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, December 26, 1941. She then lived most of her life in Atlanta, GA with her husband, Jeff and their children. Barbara's zeal was reflected in her many passions. One of those lifelong interests involved gardening. She was the first president of the Rivercourt Parkway Garden Club. She was a master gardener. She pursued her education throughout her life to include DeKalb College in Atlanta, Williams College in Massachusetts, and Western Carolina. She was a member of SHORTIA – a club to study the plants of the Southern Appalachian Mountains and the Southeast through field trips and meetings. She was a former president of the State Perennial Association. Barbara – a true Renaissance lady – was an accomplished oil painter, she was a gourmet cook, she was a teacher; she taught at the Spruill Center. She was a celebrated speaker in the gardening community. She was a landscape designer. She spent several years travelling to Europe with her garden group. She was the trip coordinator. Her robust "can-do" attitude drew many to her who shared similar interests and a mutual love of adventure. To be at Barbara's table for Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthdays was a wonderful experience. She loved and is loved by her family and many friends. Barbara is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Allen of Atlanta, her children, Tyler, Joe, Billy and Barbara Allen. Her mother, Edna of Englewood, her brother Jerry, his wife, Donna and their children, her sister, Sharon of Sarasota and her daughter, Robin and her children.
