Family-Placed Death Notice
CROKER, Ben, Sr. Ben M. Croker Sr., 78, of Dallas passed away peacefully on April 24, 2010 at home after a courageous battle against cancer. Ben, born in Dallas, graduated from Georgia Tech in 1954 with a degree in Textile Engineering. Upon graduation, he joined the Navy and rose to Commander in the six years he was in active service. He served in the military reserves until full retirement. Ben was a lifelong employee of Burlington Industries retiring in 1998 after 38 years of devoted service. His work with Burlington relocated him to many locations including Gastonia, NC, Little Silver, NJ and Greensboro, NC before his retirement in Dallas. Ben was an avid orchid gardener and tinkerer extraordinaire both while working and in retirement. Ben was predeceased by his father, Hubert Croker, his mother, Kate Croker and sister, Jackie Dimmock. He is survived by: his beloved wife, Leci; daughter and son-in-law, Baden and Laney Chace and their daughters, Hailey and Charlsea, of Little Silver, NJ; son and daughter-in-law, Ben Jr. and Gena Walter (Croker) and their son Trey of Winston Salem, NC. Visitation is Wednesday, April 28 at 1 p.m. at Benson Funeral Home, 309 Hardee St. in Dallas. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at Benson's.
