Beth WRIGHT Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

WRIGHT, Beth BETH FILLINGIM WRIGHT Beth Fillingim Wright spent each day putting others before herself and making everyone feel special. She was a beautiful wife to George, a source of strength and love to her children & grandchildren and an unyielding champion for Christ. Beth worked at WSB TV & Radio, volunteered throughout the Atlanta community and made sure that everyone was included. She is survived by her husband, George and their 4 children, Bryant (Anne), Alice (Stevie), Scotland (Peggy) and Van Earl (Shari), as well as 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Born on April 9, 1929 in Thomasville, GA to Van Earl and Noirena Fillingim, she was the younger sister to Van Earl, Jr. and Polly Atwill. She grew up in Columbia, SC and graduated from Dreher High and the University of South Carolina. While at Carolina, Beth was a cheerleader, President of Chi Omega, May Queen and recipient of the Algernon Sidney Sullivan service award, recognizing her as Most Outstanding female member of her senior class. Beth married George B. Wright in July of 1950 at Shandon Methodist in Columbia and through 63 years of marriage, they have personified how 2 people become one upon marriage. They moved to Atlanta in 1958 where they have been faithful servants to both Johnson Ferry and Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist churches. Beth loved teaching the Bible to 9 & 10 year old children. Living for Christ, Beth & George were, and are, vivid examples of "walking the walk." Beth also volunteered countless hours for the Atlanta Symphony Guild, Techwood Ministries, Summerhill Ministries, The Rabun Gap Nacoochee Guild, Fledgings, and Sandy Springs Mission. In addition, she worked for more than 30 years as Director of Tours for WSB TV & Radio. Sharing history of this Atlanta institution and being in the "middle of the action" at Channel 2 gave Beth endless joy. Beautiful Beth loved traveling the world that included a special mission trip to Kenya. She & George also had many international guests in their home. She loved working in her yard and always kept their home at Chateaugay looking great for their many guests, especially friends of their children. Beth's children, and grandchildren, claim she was the coolest mom and NaNa in town as she was frequently seen zipping up & down Peachtree in her convertible, with the top down, as her favorite classical music played at full volume. Beth Fillingim Wright has been described by many as "one of the most beautiful women" they've ever seen. Her beauty was indeed stunning but it was a mere reflection of her soul. Her faith and her love of the Lord helped shape & define the person who became an incredible wife to George, a wonderful Mom and Nana and a true southern lady who had a loving impact on this world. In lieu of flowers, Beth's family has requested donations be made in her name to Right From the Heart Ministries, Young Life and Sandy Springs Mission. The family will receive guests at the H. M Patterson and Son-Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd in Sandy Springs, GA 30328 on Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A memorial service to honor and celebrate Beth's life will be held at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church on Friday, May 24th at 11:00 a.m.
