Betty DAVIS Obituary

DAVIS, Betty Jane 83, of Tucker, passed away suddenly Sept. 29, 2015. Born April 3, 1932 in Vidalia, GA, Bet - as she was known to friends and family - was a single career woman before single career women became commonplace. She worked for the FBI in New York City in the 1950s, but spent many years as an executive secretary and later a popular but proficient office manager for Constangy, Brooks & Smith, a labor and employment law firm in Atlanta. She was bound by both a sense of duty and a sense of adventure: whether it was cruising Alaska, traveling through China and Europe, or driving I-16 south weekly to Vidalia in the last years of her mother's life. She loved to laugh with her many cherished friends and small but loving family. Betty is survived by a sister, Helen Davis Struensee (Ike), of Smyrna, a niece, Jann Struensee Wynn, of Acworth, and a nephew, Chuck Struensee (Nicole), of Tarrytown, NY. She is dearly missed but heaven has her beauty and laughter now. A memorial will be held Sunday, Oct. 4 at 2 pm at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Atlanta. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts in her name be sent to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, "Friends of Music," 731 Peachtree St. NE, Atlanta, GA 30308, or a charity of your choosing.

The stars are twinkling somewhere with the light of Ms. Betty's twinkling blue eyes. She was a lovely person who was very kind to me when I was a new legal secretary at Constangy, and continued our friendship after I had left the firm and she had retired. She was an excellent mentor and friend. And oh, the stories she could tell at gatherings after work. So much fun. Ms. Betty Jean, you will be missed by many.

I am a neighbor of Betty's at Huntington condos in Tucker. Betty was always very pleasant and helpful to me and she gave freely of her time to help our community. We need more like her. My heart goes out to Betty's family at this time of sorrow.

A lovely lady - with an amazing sense of style. Betty has been my neighbor for the past 8 years. Despite admitting she was not a "cat" person, her and my very verbal cat, Clooney, also became good friends. I will miss you Betty. Judi Fyola

I am Lovic Brooks' daughter with whom Betty worked many years. He always spoke highly of her and considered her a family friend and a dedicated co-worker and appreciated hearing from her. When calling his office she always expressed genuine interest in you. I am thankful she touched and enriched our lives.
