Family-Placed Death Notice

JONES, Carol Lynn (Halverson) Loving Wife, Mother & Grandmother Carol Lynn (Halverson) Jones, 79, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Marietta, Georgia and Chicago, died at Messiah Village on Friday, November 16, 2012. She was born in Illinois, on Saturday, October 7, 1933, daughter of the late Ellis Cobb Halverson and Edith (McLarty) Halverson. Carol was the widow of A. Russell Jones whom she married on August 10, 1957, and who died on April 14, 1997. Carol graduated from University of Illinois with her Bachelors Degree and from Georgia State University with her Masters in Elementary Education. She was a founding member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marietta, GA. Like her father, and probably because of him, Carol was a life-long Chicago Cubs Fan and she loved to sing. Carol was a proud teacher and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She greatly enjoyed children, especially her grandchildren, and she loved dogs and reading. She will be deeply missed. Carol's survivors include her loving children, Russell H. Jones and his wife Jann of Roswell, Georgia, Stephen M. Jones and his partner Lynn Keys of Marietta, Georgia, Katherine M. Jones of Harrisburg; her two grandsons, Eric Jones and Kyle Jones both of Marietta, Georgia; and her Boston Terrier, Buddy. Among those preceding Carol in death are her brother, John Halverson. All are welcome to join Carol's family at her Gathering of Family and Friends, Friday, November 30, 2012, from 10:30 until time of service, at 11:00 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2881 Canton Road, Marietta, GA 30066, with Reverend Zeta T. Lamberson officiating. Carol's family invites everyone to join them for a time of food and fellowship at her church following the service. Burial will be in Pineridge Memorial Park in Kennesaw, GA. Carol's family has entrusted her care to Myers-Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory in Mechanicsburg, (717) 766-3421.
