Family-Placed Death Notice

CATHERINE MARONEY "KATIE" ADAMS Catherine Maroney "Katie" Adams was born in New Orleans on May 17, 1921. She lost her mother at the age of two and was raised by her grandparents. Despite the loss of her mother she had a happy childhood surrounded by a large extended Irish Catholic family in New Orleans. There she met the love of her life, Edward (Eddie) Adams. They were married in 1941 just before Eddie left for World War II. While her husband was away she worked for the Red Cross and did secretarial work for the port of New Orleans. After the war they moved to Atlanta but it was no secret that they held their home town, New Orleans close to their hearts for the rest of their lives. Their marriage lasted sixty-one happy years. Edward G. Adams died on September 7, 2002. Katie and Eddie had five children in Atlanta where they were active members of Christ the King Church. Katie was deeply committed to her family and truly enjoyed her role as mother, from driving carpools, to chairing the Christ the King Carnival. She participated in the founding of d'Youville Academy. They had a close knit group of friends who loved a good party. Katie was an extraordinary cook who acquired a passionate love of food and cooking from her New Orleans upbringing. Friday nights the table at the Adams house was often crowded with family and friends enjoying her New Orleans specialties. When their children grew up, Katie and Eddie took wonderful trips together to China, Japan, Europe and the Caribbean. Katie loved the research and planning of these holidays. Since two of her children lived in Italy for several years they had many wonderful visits there and also enjoyed a stay in Ireland to rediscover her Irish roots. When Eddie retired in 1985 they moved to their beloved St. Simons Island and enjoyed frequent visits with their children and grandchildren. Katie was adored by her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. She is survived by her daughters, Nan Mabon of London, England and Randi Williams, of Atlanta, GA, and her sons, Kelly Adams of Hastings, NY, and James Adams of Atlanta, GA, and her daughter-in-law Jo Ann Adams (wife of Martin E. Adams, eldest son who predeceased her in 1993) of Dunwoody, GA. In addition, she is also survived by her grandchildren, Stewart Harris, Sally Mabon, Caroline Mabon, Will Adams, Kate Adams, Andrew Brown, Lucy Adams and Delaney Brown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Atlanta, Development Office, 1244 Park Vista Drive, Atlanta, GA 30319 or to Emory AlzheimersDisease Center, Director of Development Neurology, Woodruff Research Memorial Building, Suite 6115, Atlanta, GA 30322, phone number (404) 727-4971. A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the Cathedral of Christ The King. H,M.
