Curtis A. BEALL

Obituary Condolences

Family-Placed Death Notice

BEALL, Curtis A. CURTIS A. BEALL Curtis A. Beall of Dublin, GA passed away, surrounded by his family Thursday, January 10, 2013, after an extended illness. Mr. Beall was born September 23, 1922 to the late Millard and Vera Beall of Brewton, GA. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Beall, and his brother, Filmore Beall. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Al and Patsy Beall; daughter and son-in-law, Anita and Mike Welborn; grandchildren, Bill Chappell, Lisa Love, Rob Chappell, Lee Beall, Sally Murphy, Sam Beall; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In his youth, Mr. Beall was a member of 3 championship basketball teams: Dublin High School, Middle Georgia College, and Duke University. He graduated from the University of Georgia where he was very active in campus activities including Gridiron, ODK, Aghon, and Blue Key. Having been on the 1942 cheering squad when Georgia played in the Rose Bowl, he held the distinction of being the oldest male UGA cheerleader, leading the students in cheers at the annual Homecoming game until 2011. Net proceeds from his book, Memoirs of a Marine Dawg: From the Rose Bowl to the Pacific Theatre, were donated to the UGA cheerleaders for their expenses. After serving in the Marine Corps in the Pacific during WWII, he returned to Georgia where he farmed and eventually retired as President of the Federal Land Bank Association in Dublin. Living a very active life, he served on many boards and committees. But in his opinion, the most important of them all was his membership in the Brewton Baptist Church since 1934, where he taught the intermediate Sunday School Class for more than 25 years, sang in the church choir, and was a leader in church activities. Words cannot express the family's appreciation to Billy Tant for his professionalism and caring dedication during the last months of our father's life. He was truly a Godsend. Funeral services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 13, at Brewton Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Wiggins, Kelly Maddox, and Ron Bracewell officiating. Interment will follow at the Brewton Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bill Chappell, Rob Chappell, Lee Beall, Sam Beall, Dr. Fred Beall, and Samuel Beall. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons and members of the Men's Sunday School Class of Brewton Baptist Church, Ronnie Wilcher and William Coleman. The family will receive friends at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home on Saturday, January 12, 2013 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be sent to Brewton Baptist Church, 475 S. Peachtree Road, Dublin, GA 31027. Townsend Brothers Funeral Home in Dublin will be in charge of arrangements. Please visit www.townsendfuneralhome.com to sign the online memorial register.
