Diane SMITH Obituary
SMITH, Diane McCuiston Diane McCuiston Smith of Dawsonville died at Atlanta Hospice on November 16 following an extended battle with multiple myeloma. She was born in Detroit Michigan to Macon Hamlin McCuiston and Velda Rose Cox on November 6, 1946. She graduated from Hillwood High School in Nashville and attended Middle Tennessee State University, graduating in 1968 with a degree in Sociology. After graduation she moved to Atlanta and started work as a caseworker for Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services. She worked for Family and Children Services, at either the county or state level, for the next 36 years, retiring as a program consultant in 2004. In 1985 she married Roger Smith, who brought her beloved Zachary into her life. After retirement she and Roger traveled full-time, visiting all fifty states as well as over thirty countries. Her travel interests were wide-ranging, from presidential libraries to Paul Bunyan. She is survived by Roger, Zack and his wife Katie Moore-Smith of Atlanta, her sister Sue Zapp (Fred) of Brentwood, TN, sister-in-law Kathryn Smith (George Godsall) of Dahlonega, nephews Nathan Zapp (Marissa) of Brentwood TN and Justin Zapp (Kelly) of Auburn, AL, her close cousin Alice Hill of Flagstaff and Phoenix Arizona and her best friend Kathy Ray of Atlanta. Memorial Services will be on Saturday December 3 at the Gainesville location of the Atlanta Botanical Garden, 1911 Sweetbay Drive, Gainesville GA, with visitation at 1:30 and the service at 2:00.
