Donald Gavin SABIN Obituary
Donald Gavin Sabin, of Lilburn, Georgia, died May 10, 2014 on his 91st birthday. He was a native of Jonesborough, TN and grew up in both Jonesborough TN. and Walterboro, SC. He was the youngest of seven children of Albert Sevier Sabin and Maud Raysor Sabin. Don's college years at East Tennessee State College were interrupted by his service in The U.S. Navy in WWII as a fighter pilot assigned to the USS Shangri-la. He was a recipient of The Distinguished Flying Cross. After the war, he married Dorothy Davis of Mosheim, TN on October 8, 1945 and was married until her death in 1996. Don finished college at East Tennessee State College and accepted a management position with Georgia Power Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, Dot and Don enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada and Europe and visiting with friends and family. They were both active members of Hillside Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Ga. After Dot's death, he continued to live in Lilburn and enjoyed meeting friends and walking on the trails at Lilburn Park. Don is truly a member of "The Greatest Generation" and will be missed by his four daughters, Elaine Sabin Townley (Bill), Donna Sabin Knight, Patricia Sabin and Julie Sabin Breedlove (Byron). He is also survived by five grandchildren, Anne Townley Clevenger (Darrell), Laura Townley Aucoin (Dave), Rob Knight (Becky), Will Breedlove and Claire Breedlove, seven great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
