Edward "Pete" CARTER Obituary
CARTER, Edward "Pete" Edward Paden "Pete" Carter. Born November 19, 1927, died October 25, 2016. Born to the late William J. and Ann Lee Carter in Atlanta, Georgia. Pete attended Boys High in Atlanta, The University of Georgia and graduated from Georgia State University. He began his career with Mount and Carter, a CPA firm in 1952, which later merged with Coopers Lybrand. Upon retiring from his career as a CPA, his love of woodworking and building led him to begin a new career as owner of Tracy Limited, a furniture manufacturer until his retirement in 1986. Leaving the big city for a simpler way of life, he bought property in McDonough, GA where he loved his fishing pond and gardens. He was married to his late wife, Nancy McCrorey Carter for 43 years. He married Jane Odom Carter in 1996. Pete had many hobbies including woodworking, building model vintage cars and ships, gardening, fishing, traveling, and sports, holding season tickets to UGA football and the Falcons for many years. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, Friars Club, Atlanta Quarterback Club, National Society of Accountants, American Institute of CPAs, Georgia Society of CPAs, McDonough First United Methodist Church, and Capital City Club. He is survived by his wife, Jane, children Debbie (John) Craton, Tim (Kathy) Carter, Rebecca Carter, Martha (Jay) Christopher and Al Fleetwood, Jr.; grandchildren Karen Carter, Allen (Christina) Carter, Paden (Lauren) Carter, Edward Craton, Adam Craton, Allison Christopher, Rebecca Christopher, and Elizabeth Christopher; great grandson Timothy Allen Carter, III. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 11:00am in the Moore Chapel at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, Atlanta, Georgia, with Dr. C.R. Hill and Dr. William J. Britt officiating. Funeral arrangements by Patterson's Oglethorpe. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to McDonough First United Methodist Church.
