O'CONNOR, Edward A. Father Edward A. O'Connor, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, died Monday, Nov. 7. He was 81. Father O'Connor was born in Roscommon, Ireland, Aug. 2, 1935, the son of Michael J. and Margaret O'Connor. He attended school at the Christian Brothers School, Roscommon, and later attended seminary at St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, County Kildaire, Ireland. He was ordained a priest on June 19, 1960, at St. Patrick's College by Most Reverend John McQuaid, Primate of Ireland. Father O'Connor arrived in the U.S. the same year he was ordained and first served as parochial vicar of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Atlanta. Assignments since then have included serving as a teacher as St. Pius X High School, Atlanta, and St. Joseph's Catholic High School, Atlanta, as well as parochial vicar at St. John the Evangelist Church, Hapeville, and Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Decatur. He has been the pastor of St. Peter Church, LaGrange, St. Mary Church, Rome, Holy Cross Church, Atlanta, St. Michael Church, Gainesville, Holy Trinity Church, Peachtree City, and Queen of Angels Church, Thomson. He was the founding pastor of St. Theresa Church, Douglasville. In recent years, he served as chaplain for the Serra Club. For the past eight years, Fr. O'Connor was in residence at St. George Village in Roswell, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in Father O'Connor's memory to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Home, 760 Pollard Blvd., SW, Atlanta, GA 30315 or Sophia Academy, 2880 Dresden Drive, Atlanta, Georgia 30341. The Vigil service will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 7:00pm at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Road, NE, Atlanta, GA. 30305. Funeral mass will be on Friday, November 11, 2016 at 10:30am at the Cathedral of Christ the King. Rite of Committal will be at Arlington Cemetery.
