Elyse gave me my first job as a temporary legal secretary as I studied for the bar back in 1998. Then, she helped set up the interview for my first real job - a position I still enjoy today. I was stunned to see Elyse's passing listed in The Temple's Bulletin as I helped celebrate my cousin's Bat Mitzvah this morning. I am deeply saddened. However, I know that I am a better person for having crossed paths with Elyse. I will remember her always and her family, John and Brent, will remain in my thoughts and prayers!

I am shocked to hear of this huge loss and send my deepest sympathy to all family and friends. I've not been in touch for a long time, but will always cherish memories from long, long ago of a trememdously warm, fun, caring and intelligent woman. Although Elyse won't be with us physically, she will remain in our hearts forever.

Dear John and Brent......Elyse will be an inspiration to me the rest of my life....All of our late night calls during her illness will be remembered forever. I promise you both that I will fight even harder to change the outcome of lung cancer in Elyse's memory. I feel blessed to have had her in my life and deeply saddened for losing her so soon.

To the family of Attorney Elyse Aussenberg: It was years ago when I met this beautiful, energetic, young attorney. I was more impressed by her persona than the high recommendation that brought me to meet her. Beauty, energy, and enthusiasm were exceeded by her honesty and integrity.

I remember as if it was just yesterday (when actually, it was at least 20 years ago [or more]). The legal advice she gave was sound, armed me, sustained me in my position, and left a lasting imprint.

Shocked to learn or her transition, my heart goes out to you, her family... for your loss is our loss. My prayer is that God comfort, keep, and strengthen you as she remains with you as a treasured memory. Her work will forever sing praises of who she is.

We always will have such fond memories of Elyse... from the moment we first met those many years ago when Brent and Beck picked each other up at a restaurant, to our fun outings at the lake and delicious meals shared at one another's homes. Elyse taught us that fearlessness is not gender specific... she always embraced life to the fullest, and we admired her... even envied her... for it. John, Brent... we're so sorry for your loss, and can only hope that over time the painful memories of her final weeks will be replaced with joyful memories of the love and many adventures you all shared. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Love, Betty, Ralph and Beck Heigl

To John, Brent and the Aussenberg family,
I want to extend my deepest condolences to you all. Elyse and I were close friends many years ago and while we have not seen each other for quite a long time, I always tried to follow how she was doing. Elyse was such a happy, care free person who's laugh would put you at ease and who always was interested in you. May her memory keep you all strong and bring a smile to your face when you need it the most. She will be missed!
