Obituary Condolences

BABB, George George Bernard Babb, 99, formerly a resident of College Park, Ga for over 60 years, passed away on July 25, 2014, after a lingering illness lasting over a year. He was preceded in death by his parents George Doles Babb and Mary Alma (Perry) Babb of Macon, GA and his wife of 70-plus years Ina Marie (Standifer) Babb. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Born in Macon GA, January 27, 1915, he moved to Atlanta, GA and attended and graduated from Boys High School. He also attended Georgia State University and Georgia Tech. He had been a member of College Park First Baptist Church, College Park First United Methodist Church, and was currently a member of Harp's Crossing Baptist Church, Fayetteville, GA. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II from 1942 until 1945, assigned to the USS Bracken in the Pacific theatre which brought back the first liberated POW's from Japan after the war. He had a distinguished career with Unilever in Sales and Administration Management from 1938 until his retirement in 1977. An active square dancer for over 40 years, he was very instrumental in organizing large events and was president of several clubs during that time. He attended and participated in international square dance functions and events around the globe. For several years, well after his retirement, he was certified in and taught water aerobics for senior adults. He is survived by daughter, Pat Earnest, Fayetteville, GA; sons: Newton Babb (Beth), Woodstock, GA; Ovid Babb, Jacksonville FL; Joe Babb, Vail CO; and Dean Babb, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren: Amy (Clay) Stewart, Fayetteville, GA; Beckie (Mark) Sikes, Fayetteville, GA; Janet (Gary) Cook, Roswell, GA; Lesli (David) Harlan, McKinney, TX; Suzy Babb, Knoxville, TN; Taylor Babb, Greensboro, NC; Charlie Babb, Moreland GA; Alec Babb, Manilla, Philippines; great-grandchildren: Shannon Stewart, A. J. Stewart, Ivy Gosdin, Anna Gosdin; Kennedy Cook, Grant Cook; and Reagan Cook; numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States. A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 3, 2014, at 3:00PM at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Reverend Dennis Watson will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
