Family-Placed Death Notice

Mr. James J, Dickerson, age 85, of Cook Road, Zebulon, passed away June 23, 2005 at his residence. He was born in Talbot County, GA on July 7, 1919 to the late Levi Leonard Dickerson and Mary Martha Moore Dickerson. He was a member of The Gathering Non-denominational Church in Thomaston, a member and Past Master of Montgomery Lodge No. 31, a member and Past Worthy Patron of the Clarissa Pike Chapter No. 539 of the Eastern Star both in Zebulon, a member of the Royal Arch Mason Chapter No. 10 in Griffin, and past Commander of the Griffin Commandery No. 35. He proudly served in the 106 Infantry Division of the United States Army during WWII. During the Battle of the Bulge, he was captured and became a prisoner of war. He was also a retired Electronic Technician from Robins Air Force Base and enjoyed woodworking. Mr. Dickerson was preceded in death by his first wife, Susie Dickerson and six brothers. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Carroll Dickerson; son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Pam Dickerson of Perry, GA; daughter, Patricia Dickerson of Fayetteville, GA; step-children and their spouses, Bill and Marcia Poston of Zebulon, Calvin and Sandy Poston of Lake Hartwell and Janice and Norbert Jones of Savannah; a grandson, Leonard Dickerson, Jr. of Lizella, GA and seven step-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, June 26, 2005 at 2 o'clock in Fincher United Methodist Church in Meansville with Rev. Charles Bennett and Rev. Gary Kemp, officiating. Interment will follow in Fincher Memorial Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Dickerson will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service to lie-in-state. Moody Funeral Home in Zebulon is in charge of arrangements,
