Family-Placed Death Notice
LANKFORD, James James "Jim" Wilburn Lankford Mr. James "Jim"Wilburn Lankford of Cedartown, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011, after his second battle with cancer. He was born on July 3, 1934 in PolkCounty, to the late Otis Richard "Bill" Lankford and the late Dorothy Williams Lankford. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Starling Monroe Williams and Mr. and Mrs. Noble Lankford. He served in the Special Forces of the United States Army in Berlin from 1957 to 1959. Jim was in the used automobile business since 1951 on Main Street in Cedartown. He was a member of the Downtown Development Authority and the Main Street Advisory Board. Jim was a mason and a member of the Polk County Historical Society, First Baptist Church of Cedartown, and past member of the Optimist Club. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Jean Herndon Lankford (it was a good life), his sweet daughter, Amy and her husband Mike Bradley of Woodstock, Georgia, a fine son Bill Lankford and his wife, Darlene of Ringgold, Georgia. He is also survived by three dear grandchildren Marguerite Jaymes Bradley, Madison Abigail Lankford, and Elijah Clarke Lankford along with three uncles L.T., Lewis, and Paul Lankford, cousins he loved Jean, Linda, Sandy, Ricky, Garland, Kitty, Larry, Wayne, Chris, Fran, Laura, Julie, Larry, Kathy, Bucky, Tommy, Junior (deceased), sisters, Tina and Elaine, and half sister, Deborah Davidson. Jim is also survived by his very special friend Douglas Weaver and canine best friend Joe Dog. In keeping with his wishes, his body was cremated.
