Family-Placed Death Notice
FRIEND, Marian MARIAN ANN FRIEND Marian Ann Friend, of Lake Spivy Georgia, passed away August 17, 2013, at home after an extended illness. She was born in Anderson, Indiana at St. Johns Hospital and spent her earlier years in the Pendleton and Anderson, Indiana area where she graduated from Pendleton High School in 1962. Ann worked at the Electra, Cumberland Indiana plant for 12 years as an assistant technician. She worked on the original Bear Cat Police Scanner, and the first Bellsouth cordless phone prototype. Ann was a very avid interior decorator specializing in making flower arrangements for weddings, family, and friends. In 1992, she moved to Tennessee where she and her second husband owned a glass shop in Pigeon Forge by the Old Mill until 2000. After the death of her second husband, she met her current husband, LtCol David Purvis, ANG, She retired in 2003 and moved to Georgia. Ann loved spending time outside, swimming, and camping and loved to vacation at Venice and St. Augustine, Florida. Her most favorite vacation memory was the family trip to Cape Cod with her children. Ann loved to entertain, decorate for the holidays, and enjoyed having family around and preparing big dinners. She loved her Bichon, Gentleman Jack who was a faithful friend to her. Ann was preceded in death by her parents John Riley and Mildred Viola Sheldon; husbands, Thomas Friend and Robert Barger; and sister, Marjarie June Amos. She is survived by husband and best friend, Lt Col David A. Purvis ANG; son, Shel Green and wife Connie; daughters, Tracy Clute and her husband David, and Julie Sayers; sister, Jean Sisson; brother, Roger Sheldon and wife Reba; in-laws Kenneth and Barbar Purvis; brother in-law, William Purvis; stepson, Joshua Purvis; 5 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, 5 great grandsons, 1 great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. Special metion and love to her friends; Mary Ellen Dehaan, Mr. & Mrs. Huff, Connie and Mike Butch, and very close cousin Jo Ann Jones; and eternal love to her Hospice caregivers, Dr. Mary J. Mosley, and RN Schalla Dixon. Visitation will be held at Horis A. Ward-Fairview Chapel, Wednesday, August 21, from 12pm-4pm. A second visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, from 3pm-6pm followed by a memorial service at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home and Crematory, Anderson, IN, 765-649-5255.
