Martha Lou Hood PLANT Obituary
PLANT, Martha Hood Martha Lou Hood Plant, 72, of Atlanta, loving wife and mother passed away November 16, 2016. Born in Fontana Dam, NC, October 18, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Love Stewart "L.S." and Rubye S. Hood. In 1961 she made her debut at the Poinsettia Ball Club in Leesburg, Florida. Martha attended and graduated from Henry Grady Hospital Nursing School and worked for Dr. Napier Burson as an RN. On November 30, 1968, she married the love of her life, John H. Plant, Sr. Martha thoroughly enjoyed entertaining and cooking wonderful meals for family and friends. She was a member of Briarlake Baptist Church and a member of Mary Wood's Co-ed Sunday School Class. Martha was best known for her cooking and decorating skills and had an eye for color. Martha is survived by her husband of 48 years, John H. Plant, Sr.; two children, Ashley Elizabeth Plant, and John H. Plant, Jr. and his wife, Desirea; her favorite niece, Lisa Caldwell of Columbia, S.C.; and many more loving family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, www.lupus.org, the National M.S. Society, www.nationalmssociety.org, or to the Atlanta Humane Society, www.atlantahumane.org. The family will receive friends at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 20, in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hersh officiating.
