BILES, Mary Ann MARY ANN MARTIN BILES Mary Ann Martin Biles, of Fayetteville, GA, departed this life on May 8, 2014 to be with our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. Ann Martin was born on September 2, 1936, at Taylor's Creek Community, Liberty County, GA. Her parents were Paul Franklin Martin and Ruth Marie Dixon Martin. She was the only daughter; her siblings are/were Paul F. Martin, Jr., of Stockbridge, GA, Billy G. Martin (deceased), J. Don Martin (deceased), George T. Martin (Gail) of Kalamazoo, MI, and Jerry L. Martin (Nancy) of Decatur, GA and many cousins and nieces and nephews. The family moved to Hinesville, GA when the U.S. Army acquired their lands for Fort Stewart, GA. Ann graduated with honors from Bradwell Institute in 1954. She worked at the local Housing Authority, Fort Stewart Quartermaster Commissary and at Third Army Headquarters at Fort McPherson, Atlanta, GA. After her marriage to James (Jim) F. Biles, Jr. in 1959 they moved to Macon, Georgia and later lived in Decatur, Atlanta, Columbus and since 1976, Fayetteville. They have two children, James (Jay) F. Biles, III, of Palmetto and Kellie M. Biles Bailey, and son-in-law, Scott S. Bailey, Stockbridge. Her precious grandchildren are Courtney Ann Bailey and Scott Lawson Bailey of Stockbridge. They were the joy of her life. She was very devoted to her family and loved them dearly. Ann attended Columbus College and graduated in 1973 magna cum laude, with a major in history and a teaching certificate. She was employed by the Muscogee County School District for 2 ½ years. After the family moved to Fayetteville, she taught Social Studies at Fayette County High School for 21 years, retiring in 1997. During that time she also acted as advisor to the Junior Civitan Club, the school yearbook, and Closeup. The students at Fayette County High named her as Teacher of the Year several times. She always stated that she loved the students and we know they loved her. In 1990, she received her Master's degree from Georgia State University. She was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. The family wished to express their love and appreciation to the staff at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living and Vistas Hospice Care for their attention to Ann. The family will greet friends and relatives at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, 180 N. Jeff Davis Drive, Fayetteville, from 6-8 P.M. on May 16, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. in the Overton Chapel at Fayetteville First Baptist Church on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Reverend Glenn Stringham will officiate.
