Family-Placed Death Notice
BAINE, Natalie NATALIE ANN BAINE Natalie Ann Baine, 20, of Roswell, GA, died Jan. 11, 2013 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident earlier in the week. Natalie attended the University of Alabama, where she was a Junior year honor student. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Natalie was recently accepted to study abroad in her major of Accounting, and had plans to attend graduate school. Natalie graduated from Roswell High School in 2010. She started playing basketball at age 5, and eventually became a 4 year starter on the varsity team. As a sign of her physical and mental toughness, Natalie was the all-time leader in consecutive starts at Roswell with 111, and was point guard on the first regional championship team in 30 years. She was also proud to be a member of the Georgia Hoopstars Elite Basketball team. Always quick with a smile, Natalie knew no strangers and was never one to sit still. She loved sports, which was second only to her family and friends. Her energy, enthusiasm, and love of life were felt by everyone that had the good fortune of meeting her. Even in death, Natalie continues to spread her unselfish kindness. By donating her organs, Natalie has already given life to a 13 year old that needed a heart, a middle age man who received her liver, and her two kidneys found a 17 yr old female and a 28 yr old male recipient today. She is preceded in death by her MATERNAL GRANDMOTHER, MARGARET VANCE, HER FRATERNAL GRANDFATHER, ROBERT BAINE, and her cousin Spencer McIllwain. Dear Family,
As a parent of children that also graduated from Roswell High School I want to send my condolences to the family of Natalie Baine. This is a tragic loss. Your daughter seemed like so many of Roswell's youth - full of life and excitement. You may wonder how to cope with this sudden loss. This brochure has been helpful to me when I've lost someone I loved - it may be helpful to you too. I would like to share this with you.

Janet & Coach Bill,
We will continue to keep you all in our prayers and spirit in hopes that God will provide you all the necessary comfort, healing and understanding associated with loss of Natalie. Terek, Brooke, and I know that you two will keep all of the kids close, but keep each other closer as there will be days, events and holidays which will seem impossible to get through - and will truly require you to lean on each other. Remember to make entries in the Family Journal, and over time, you will have one amazing memoir of Natalie, made possible by the ones who knew her and loved her the most, her family. Peace and love be with all of you...

The words do not exist to describe how profoundly sad we are. Elisabeth learned of Natalie's death last night. We have been crying ever since. Since those amazing experiences with our beloved Pistols Purple team, we have always felt as if Natalie was one of our own. She was the soul and the spark of that team. Though Elisabeth and Natalie went off to new adventures, we often wondered aloud about Natalie and what she was up to. She never knew what an inspiration she was to us. We wanted to share an excerpt from an essay Elisabeth wrote about your precious little girl.
“What is character? Character is my friend Natalie Baine. Though I would not understand until years later, Natalie, age ten, defined character for me in the most profound way. She had just won the most important basketball game of our lives, a game that no one believed we could win, except us. We wanted to win that game more than anything, ever. Down by one point with four seconds left and without the ball, Natalie made an impossible steal, raced four girls the length of the court, and made a buzzer beating shot. Teammates, coaches and parents hoisted her on our shoulders in absolute delirious joy. She was our hero, a rock star! But she wasn't celebrating. She was frantically searching the crowd. And all I could hear her saying was ‘it was Elisabeth, it was Elisabeth, she tipped me the ball, where's Elisabeth?!' Not one single person in that entire gym could know that but her, and no one ever had to know. But for Natalie, it wasn't all about Natalie; it was about the team. That in all its subtlety is character in its purest form, inscribed on my soul forever by my ten year old friend Natalie Baine.”
She made us all so proud that day and we count that memory and the many others with her among our most precious. Those memories will make us smile for the rest of our lives. She will always be the smiling, mischievous, never-quit little girl in the purple knee pads. Please take comfort in knowing that she touched so many in her short life. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Our daughter Nicole attends The University of Alabama. She has spoke often of her new friend Natalie that they had become friends this year. She had told me recently that she had a great personality & was such an easy person to be with....It's not how long you know a person but the impact that they had on you. Our family is deeply saddened for the loss of your beautiful daughter. With our deepest sympathy we pray for your family.

In the summer of 2009, Natalie worked at the Lady Hornets' basketball camp. My daughter was the youngest, smallest girl, having just finished second grade. On the second morning of camp my daughter did not want to go inside. Just then, Natalie was arriving and, on her own initiative, gave my daughter a great pep talk. They went inside together and Natalie rebounded as my daughter tried so hard to throw a basketball as high as the rim. My daughter had a great rest of the week, and during Natalie's senior year we loved going to Lady Hornet games and cheering for her. You often never know when you touch others in loving ways, and I'm not sure Natalie would even recall that act of kindness, but she was and always will be an angel. May God's love and grace be with her family and friends today and always.
