Tom was our Professor of Military Science at Creighton University and had a life-long impact on all of his officers and NCOs. He had a huge impact and influence in how I led Soldiers and cared for families during my 26 years in the Army especially. His values, love for the Army and his family and commitment to young people are a fresh memory and his lasting legacy. Blessings to his wonderful family. As Tom would say..."Air Assault, By Garsh!"

Having served in our first assignments in the Army together with Tom, as a fellow platoon leader of C Company, 1st Battle Group, 18th Infantry as we road marched into Berlin in 1961, and spent four months in Berlin as the wall went up, I will never forget him as one of the finest Infantry Officers I knew. I know his whole family are justly proud of him and what he stood for. A dedicated Army Officer that will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.

As a former student of Col Johnson at Cherokee High School, I want to express my deepest sympathy to his family. Col Johnson never forgot who I was as we would cross paths in the years to follow. His enduring devotion to the students of Cherokee High School will live on through them. God Bless.

May he rest in peace, and his legacy live on in the deeds of his family and the nation he served. There are other men in the world, but none finer. He will be with all of our brothers in Arlington. And one day I will join him there.

Tom was a great soldier and coach and a close personal friend. His team from Cherokee was a reflection of his strength of character and professionalism. The memory of his deeds will live on forever!

For those of us in the shooting sports community, Colonel Tom Johnson will be remembered as a great man who selflessly devoted himself to the development of the JROTC cadets who were in his Cherokee High School JROTC unit and were members of his very successful rifle teams. On behalf of the Civilian Marksmanship Unit, we wish to express our condolences to Colonel Tom's family and our gratitude for a life lived in the service of others.
