Family-Placed Death Notice
LAMPKIN, Thomas Thomas James Lampkin, age 83, of Tucker, GA, died Sunday, February 24, 2013. He was born to Annis and Walter Lampkin on September 4, 1929 in Jasper, Al. He attended Walker County High School, and served his country for four years in the U.S. Air Force. He attended Auburn University, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. He graduated from Jacksonvillle State University with a degree in Business Administration, and moved to Atlanta to begin his professional life. It was in Atlanta that he met his wife of 52 years, Sharlene Smith Lampkin, and where he began his life's profession as a residential builder. As president and co-founder of Lampkin Smith Company, he built custom homes in the metropolitan area for more than 35 years, and it was his joy to have his son work with him until he retired in 2000. In addition to his work, he enjoyed classic cars, traveling, and spending time with his friends and his beloved grandchildren. He was a longtime member of the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class at Tucker First United Methodist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharlene. He is survived by his son, Tom Lampkin (Judy) of Lawrenceville, his daughter, Kim Grimsley (Rick) of Tucker, his grandchildren, Charles and Marti Lampkin, Ellen and Jackson Grimsley, step grandchildren Ansley, Emily, Daniel, Leah, and Preston Oshinski, and step great granddaughter, Averie Pruitt. His memorial service will be Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel at Bill Head Funeral Home, in Tucker, GA, Rev. Jimmy Moor officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. For those who prefer, in lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory may be made to the United Methodist Children's Home, 500 S.
