Family-Placed Death Notice
ROBERTS, William, Sr. WILLIAM NUNNALLY ROBERTS, SR. Captain William Nunnally Roberts, Sr., (ret.) U. S. Navy, age 70 of Monroe, GA passed away peacefully December 4, 2012. A graveside military service for close friends and family will be held at 3 PM, Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Monroe, GA with Rev. Don Harp officiating. Billy was born in Atlanta, GA on April 18, 1942. He attended Northside High School, and then the University of Georgia, where he played football and was a member of SAE Fraternity. Billy is survived by the mother of his two children, Frances Pendleton Nunnally; son, William N. Roberts, Jr., and daughter, Mary Lee Roberts. He was a member of the Piedmont Driving Club and Capitol City Club in Atlanta. While serving in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant; Billy was awarded the Bronze Star and the Air Medal for his bravery, skill & courage in fighting the enemy participating in a SEAL Unit. During his two tours of duty in Vietnam, he was awarded countless medals before retiring as Captain. He would continue to serve in the reserves, and become a Commander of Post 134 American Legion. Billy became a real-estate broker with his company William N. Roberts Properties. He and his brother James Roberts donated property for the location of George Walton Academy in Monroe, Ga. Billy was an avid lover of hunting, deep sea fishing, spending time with his children, and breeding German Shepherds. Billy was preceded in death by his mother, Clara Knox Nunnally Roberts Williamson and his father, James McMullan Roberts. He is also survived by his beloved stepfather, David Sanford Williamson, and his two beloved brothers and their wives, Jimmy & Susan Roberts, and Roy & Suzanne Roberts; nephews & nieces, Roy Roberts, Marshall Roberts, Margie Roberts Le Roux, Anne Knox Roberts Hodges, Jimmy Roberts, Jr., Catherine Roberts Stewart and a host of their children, family & friends. Following the service, the family will host a reception at the residence of Roy & Suzanne Roberts on Nunnally Farm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Shepherds for Lost Sheep, Inc., a nonprofit committed to the training of German Shepherds that enhance the lives of Veterans and mitigate the wounds of war. http://www.shepherdsforlostsheepinc.org.
