VISSAGE, Zelma Tucker MRS. HOUSTON VISSAGE, Sr. Zelma Tucker Vissage died on May 1, 2012 at her home in Brunswick, Georgia after a lengthy illness. Services will be held at First Methodist Church, 200 South Lee Street, Americus, Georgia 31709 on Friday, May 4 at 11am with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery immediately following the service. Born in Jewell, Georgia at the home of her maternal grandmother, she was the middle child of Claude Eugene Tucker, Sr. and Ophelia Twilley Tucker. The family lived in Macon where she attended Lanier High School and Mercer University. On November 5, 1939, she married Houston Vissage, Sr. Moving to Americus, Ga. in 1951, the couple owned and operated Pecan Hill Dairy until 1970. A lifelong Methodist, she was an active member of First Methodist Church, Americus until she moved to Brunswick in 2000. She especially enjoyed her circle in the Women's Missionary Society and working with various MYF groups. For several years, she was Financial Secretary of First Methodist Church in Americus. While living in Brunswick, she attended Wesley Methodist Church on St. Simons Island until her health declined. She was predeceased by her husband in 1971, her parents; sisters, Sarah Tucker Nicholson and Dorothy Tucker Burgamy and a brother, Claude Eugene Tucker, Jr. and is survived by her son, Houston Vissage, Jr., a daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Jeff Egan, all of Brunswick, Ga.; a grand-daughter, Elisabeth Egan Hughes and her husband Stephen Hughes and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Elisabeth Hughes of Valdosta, Ga., a brother and sister-in-law, George and Betty Tucker, Gray, Ga., and her faithful Tibetan Spaniel, Millie. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Charles Simmons, Daren Tucker, Paul Guilbeau, Robbie Tucker and Richard Dumas. The family requests that memorials be made to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, Attn: Tribute and Memorial Gifts, Neonatal or Technology Units, 1687 Tullie Circle NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30329. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 from 6 until 8 pm at Hancock Funeral Home. Hancock Funeral Home, 427 South Lee Street, Americus, Ga. is in charge of arrangements.
