Family-Placed Death Notice
HAGINS, Mary Jane Mary Jane Buchanan Hagins was born July 3, 1924 in La Harpe, IL and passed away May 9, 2013 in Cumming GA. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Al, a retired Captain with the City of Atlanta Fire Department. She was preceded in death by her youngest son, David, who died in the line of duty in December 1980 as a Fulton County Police Officer. Her eldest son, Mitch, and his wife Donna live in Cumming. Mary had six grandchildren-Matt and wife Misty of Lawrenceville; Charles and wife Kristin of Dawsonville; Sarah and husband Wesley of Virginia Beach VA-and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. As a wife, mother and grandmother, Mary loved her family. This was the most important part of her life and her lasting legacy is already evident in the lives of her grandchildren. The last two years were a challenge physically. Even then, she found moments of laughter and memories with those who loved her and those that cared for her. Among those caregivers was the amazing team at Northside Hospital Forsyth. Carolyn Booker and the nursing team, Drs. Childs, Gibson and Reddy, the ER staff, the hospital support service staff and others at Northside all demonstrated skill and compassion over several stays. Dr. Padhiar and his staff have been exceptional as her personal physician. The Villas of Canterfield assisted living loved and cared for Mary in ways that were genuine and heartfelt. They are a trusted family member today. Halcyon Hospice was more than helpful especially in the last hours; very professional and kind. The staff at Chestnut Ridge in Cumming was outstanding, bringing Mary through rehab with success, skill and compassion. First responders and transport agencies in Cumming were timely, professional and helpful. All these and more made a difference for Mary and her family. A funeral service will be held Monday, May 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please give a gift to Northside Hospital Forsyth, write a thank you note to your personal physician or person you know in healthcare and above all else, hug your family today. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt Vernon Hwy, NE,Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
