John Jasper HARBER III Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

HARBER III, John Jasper John Jasper Harber III, a native of Atlanta, passed away Monday, June 17, 2013, after an extended illness. Mr. Harber, the son of the late Jack Harber and Carolyn Melton, was born December 26, 1937. He attended Grady High School and was a member of the 1953 state champion football team coached by Erk Russell. He attended the University of Georgia and graduated from Georgia State University. Mr. Harber grew up in the Morningside area of Atlanta and spent many hours playing in Brookridge Park. Like his parents, he loved animals of all kinds. Many stray dogs and cats owe their lives to his kind heart. He owned and managed the Quik Car Wash on Buford Highway for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed visiting Panama City Beach to relive the fishing, dancing, and hanging out that he had enjoyed so much as a young man. He was an accomplished shag dancer. Survivors include his wife of forty nine years Kay Hammel Harber, his sons John Jay Harber and Travis Dillard Harber, his sister Carolyn Atkinson, and his cousins Peter Melton, Charlotte Crawford, and Claudette Christensen. A memorial service will be conducted by his caregiver, Gwen Cooper, for close relatives and friends at his home from 1-3 PM Saturday June 22. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Atlanta Humane Society at AtlantaHumane.Org .
